Frequently asked questions
Dogs on leads are allowed in all of the attractions. There are drinking bowls at various points up and down the lower gorge.
No. All of the Cheddar Gorge and Caves attractions and the car parks are privately owned so National Trust members have to pay for parking and entry to the attractions.
Parking costs £7 for a day in all of the car parks.
Our ticket machines are cashless with the exception of the ticket machine by the coach park. Cash payments can also be made at the cash desks (you will need to give your car registration if you don’t want to walk back to your vehicle) at Cheddar Gorge and Caves.
We do not charge for Blue Badge holders.
There is limited accessibility to our attractions for wheelchairs. There are two big steps leading down into Gough’s Cave, after which it is possible to push a wheelchair or pushchair three-quarters of the way into the cave to reach a grand staircase up to the final chambers. At this point there is a ‘buggy parking’ area to allow those who can negotiate the steps to leave their chairs to do so.
Cox’s Cave, Jacob’s Ladder and the Lookout Tower are not wheelchair accessible but our new experience, Beyond the View, and the Museum of Prehistory are both accessible.
If you are visiting after 28 March 2026 and require additional support during your visit (currently referred to as a carer ticket), you will need an Access Card or Digital Access Pass (DAP).
As we transition to this new system, it is not currently possible to apply for a DAP on our website. Please return from 4 March to book, or contact Guest Services if you have any questions.
From 4 March, you can apply for a free Cheddar Gorge and Caves Digital Access Pass, which is valid for three years. This means you will not need to bring supporting documents when purchasing essential companion tickets for future visits.
