Need to know
We want to make sure Cheddar Gorge and Caves is as accessible and as inclusive as possible and are delighted to have partnered with Nimbus Disability, to help those who need extra support receive it when they need it.
Nimbus Disability is an organisation run by and for disabled people and the Access Card is a photo ID which communicates your requirements by translating your disability or impairment into symbols.
Nimbus Disability organises all the administration, so you don’t need to bring any documents or share any personal information on your visit. A +1 on your card indicates you need support from another person and means you can book an essential companion ticket in advance.
If you do not have an Access Card, you can apply for a free Cheddar Gorge and Caves Digital Access Pass (DAP) which is valid for three years, so no need to bring documents to purchase essential companion tickets for subsequent visits. If you would prefer a physical Access Card recognised by all registered venues nationwide, this costs £15 for three years. You can opt to upgrade whilst applying. If you already have an Access Card, a Cheddar Gorge and Caves DAP or a Longleat DAP, please book your tickets now and we look forward to seeing you!

Your visit includes a free audio guide, bringing the story of our caves to life as you explore.
At Gough’s Cave, the guide is delivered entirely through audio and is available in:
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Mandarin Chinese.
We also offer Braille versions for visually impaired guests.
At Cox’s Cave, guests can access the audio in English, with printed transcript booklets available in a range of foreign languages to support your visit.
To ensure our guests have the best possible experience we now have sensory bags available. The bags contain ear defenders, fidget and squishy toys and are aimed at those with sensory sensitivities.
The sensory bags can be borrowed from Guest Services with a refundable £10 deposit.
- Cheddar is dog friendly. All well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
- With rocky paths, cliff edges and high vantage points, Cheddar Gorge can be dangerous so please ensure children, dogs and other vulnerable people are supervised at all times.
- The Cliff-top walk can be muddy and slippery underfoot on wet days. Wear walking shoes/boots and clothing to suit the weather. Be careful at cliff-edges. There are some steep sections of the walk and much of the path is rocky in nature.
- Those with severely restricted mobility or who are wheelchair dependent will find much of Cheddar Gorge & Caves inaccessible including the caves, the Cliff-top Walk and the Lookout Tower.
- Staff are on-hand to help you, so please ask their advice to help you get the best experience.
- Please review individual attraction pages for full accessibility information.
- The road into Cheddar is steep and windy and wildlife sometimes walks into the road, so please drive carefully.
